The Other Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Other Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”
-Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.

A pastor friend from Africa messaged me this today. Of course I, like many of you reading this, know Dr. King for his words “I have a dream”. But after reading these words on our capacity to forgive, it made me think perhaps Dr. King’s most powerful words lay in the statements that have not echoed quite as loudly through history. The capacity to forgive is what empowers, separates, and marks us for greater things. Without it, we are mediocre men at best. Perhaps it is time to train our skills not just as professionals, but as people too.
