A dream cannot be pursued
A dream cannot be defined
A dream will not make you happy
A dream cannot be achieved

A dream is meant to be lived
A dream is meant to define you
A dream is never subject to your approval
A dream is not for you to obtain

Why write this? Because we have lost our abilities to dream. We have been widdled down in our lives to nothing more than goals and achievements. They are milestones, but truly they have become our tomestones. Martin Luther King had a dream. It was beyond what he could achieve. It was beyond what the people who heard his voice that day could achieve. But everytime you see a clip of that instance in time, you see that dream. It wasn’t in the crowd or in the future legislation that followed. It was in that man standing on the platform. If you asked him that day have you achieved all that you set out to do, he would have said no, I am sure. But he did. I think once we achieve the point in which our dreams overtake us (like Walt Disney, MLK, da Vinci), we are no longer needed. We have achieved our dream within a grand common dream. We may not see all the pieces to the massive dream, but we all share in it. For some it is laughter, some it is love, for some it is hope, inspiration, labor, or rest. Our inventions, ideas, experiences, and individuality is want makes those dreams come to life. Live them now, before they become reality and you are no longer here to see it.

“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” Walt Disney

the prognosis…

without comments

Some of you may already know, I have become a huge fan of the show Eli Stone. Maybe it’s the sophisticated humor and satire. Or maybe I just reminds me of certain hopes and dreams I’ve had. I TiVo the show every week and I’m about half way through the season final and it hits me… “Why am I more inspired by a mythical character on a TV show than I am anyone today? Have I lost my heroes???” I’m not even sure I have ever had them to begin with. It’s somewhat depressing. I can’t think of a single person I would want to completely pattern my life after wholeheartedly. Don’t get me wrong there are countless things in people I admire, respect, strive to be like (My Dad, Grandparents, Friends). In everyone of the people I care about I’ve found that something to cherish. I don’t know… The sad thing is my true hero has been drug through the mud, twisted, misused, and misrepresented that it is hard to discern what path He would choose. The prognosis still might be good… maybe I’m not the one that picks the path of inspiration or is in charge of finding it…maybe we all are a little like Eli Stone…maybe it picks us.
